How to file a charge of discrimination with the EEOC | Forum

If you believe that you have been discriminated against at work because of your race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information, you can file a Charge of Discrimination. A charge of discrimination is a signed statement asserting that an employer, union or labor organization engaged in employment discrimination. This charge will requests EEOC to take remedial action.

In 2017, A Brooklyn, NY, contractor Laquila Group agreed to pay $625,000 in order to settle a U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) discrimination lawsuit, according to the New York Daily News.


Also in 2016, a federal court in Connecticut ordered painting contractor Safety Marking to pay two past employees more than $1.5 million each after complaining about racial discrimination. The lawsuit alleged that the two had to endure racial and ethnic insults and slurs. The previous employees also alleged that less-experienced white employees were promoted to higher positions within the company instead of them.
